Wonder Women is a supportive, compassionate group for mothers, female-identifying parents, and primary caregivers of neurodivergent children.
The group will focus particularly on the experiences of families who suspect their child may have a PDA profile—often described as a persistent drive for autonomy. However, it is open to caregivers who are navigating behavioural, emotional, or regulation challenges with their child, whether or not PDA is part of their child’s experience.
Together, we will work to:
Feel less alone and more understood
Build practical tools for responding to challenging moments
Strengthen connection and co-regulation
Develop sustainable self-care strategies
Create more peaceful, supportive homes for everyone
Topics may include:
Understanding PDA and the persistent drive for autonomy
Recognizing the difference between can’t and won’t
How stress, anxiety, sensory needs, and nervous-system dysregulation affect behavior
Polyvagal theory and co-regulation
Supporting children through meltdowns, shutdowns, and emotional overwhelm
Reducing conflict, shame, and power struggles
Flexible approaches to routines, transitions, school, hygiene, sleep, and daily demands
Collaborative problem-solving and compassionate communication
Identifying triggers and recognizing early signs of escalation
Setting boundaries while preserving connection and autonomy
Using playfulness, curiosity, and low-demand language
Supporting siblings and strengthening family relationships
Advocacy and communication with schools, professionals, and extended family
The three pillars of self-compassion
Caregiver burnout, guilt, grief, and emotional fatigue
Developing realistic, sustainable self-care strategies
Creating a more peaceful and supportive home environment
Selected ideas from Good Inside by Becky Kennedy and The Explosive Child by Ross W. Greene
Structure:
We will spend the first session creating safety through a collaborative discussion. Each subsequent group will consist of 20 minutes of psychoeducation followed by discussion.
